Greetings from the Philippines!

In my last email, I let you in about the recent health issues my mother was having after being diagnosed with cancer that was freakishly similar to my own. Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worst and she left us on March 8, 2021, after failing to recover from post-surgery complications. I was a virtual spectator of her final days until I was able to hop on the first available flight to the Philippines from Sri Lanka to be with my family and attend her funeral.

The intense grief I was feeling was compounded by having to serve a mandatory 7-day quarantine in the Philippines as soon as I landed. I tried to plead my case with a few airport officials as soon as I stepped off the plane to no avail. I tried my best to make use of my quarantine despite the circumstances and joined my family as soon as I could leave. The outpouring of emotion and support we received from friends and family has been overwhelming at times but is a true testament to the kind of life she lead and all the lives she has touched along the way.

It has been almost a week since we laid her to rest and I'm starting to wade through the waves of grief and sadness and make it to shore. I will be in the Philippines for a couple more weeks before heading back to Sri Lanka and I plan to spend as much of it as possible with my Dad, my brother, and sister-in-law (both have moved in with my Dad temporarily).

As for my own health, I'm pleased to let you know that my Oncologist has cleared me from receiving any cancer treatment for another 3 months! According to my most recent blood work and scans, things are relatively stable so I have been advised to continue living my normal life. I'm currently asymptomatic as well and feel no symptoms common with Pancreatic cancer. Hooray! I also got a second opinion from a radiologist my GP works with who also echoed the same thing.

For now, I'm really pleased with having a few more months of normalcy and will use this time to focus on some more creative endeavors and help my wife with her new home-based baking business. In addition, I've also received the first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine to combat COVID-19 and I look forward to being fully vaccinated in the coming weeks!

I'd love to hear how you are doing so feel free to hit reply!
